Didn't Get the Job? Don't Give Up!

After polishing and customizing your resume, spending hours researching, practicing your interview skills, and finally making it through a tough interview, you found out you didn't land the job. Rejection like this stings -- especially when you had your heart set on a specific job. However, you can't let that sting prevent you from pressing on. The right job for you is out there, so use these tips to bounce back from rejection and land an even better job.

Think About the Negatives

It's easy to miss red flags that a job isn't right for you, so instead of focusing on your loss, go back and identify the signs the job wasn't as perfect as you made it out to be. Was the hiring process difficult to navigate? Was your time respected? Did the responsibilities of the job not match your expectations? Was the culture not quite what you thought it would be? If necessary, make a list of the negatives and pull it out whenever you start to feel bad about not being chosen.

Remember, It's Not Personal

It's easy to take rejection personally, especially if you clicked with the hiring manager and were confident your interview went well. However, hiring managers make decisions based on a whole host of criteria. Don't let job rejection question who you are as a person or a professional. Hiring choices are business choices, not personal choices. Rest assured, there is a job out there that is perfect for you.

Ask for Feedback

If you made it through one or more rounds of interviews, you could be doing or saying something to inadvertently shoot yourself in the foot. Ask for feedback from the hiring manager to gain a better understanding of why you weren't chosen. Not every hiring manager will respond to a request for feedback, but some will go out of their way to respond. If you do receive feedback, accept it with grace and use it to improve your interview strategy in the future.

Get a Boost to Get Back on the Job Search

Rejection is part of the process in any job search. The fact is, you won't be a match for every employer, but then again, not every employer will be a match for you, either. It's normal to want to lick your wounds after a rejection, but achieving your goals means pressing on and not letting one "no" derail your search.
