Looking for Work? Begin With These Five Steps

Job searches can be exciting, but more often than not, getting started is the hardest part. It's easy to dream about an amazing new job but doing the work to find that job isn't always fun. If you have been procrastinating, use these five steps to get the ball rolling on your job search and set out on the path towards an exciting new opportunity.

One: Read

No matter what industry you are in, it is important to stay ahead of trends and keep up with innovations in your field. Not only will this make you better at your job, but employers are likely to ask you about specific industry trends during interviews. So, subscribe to industry publications, follow experts and thought leaders on social media, and sign up for their blogs to stay connected to the happenings in your niche.

Two: Learn a New Skill

No matter what field you are in or what level you have reached in your career, there is always something new to learn. New skills enhance your professional and personal development and can set you up for success when it comes to clinching a new job. Use your free time to hone a new skill and make yourself even more marketable.

Three: Network

There have been few, if any, chances to network in person since March of 2020. While this should change in the future, you want to prepare yourself now. Reconnect with current members of your professional network, especially if it has been a while since you've reached out. Invite people for socially distant, outdoor or otherwise responsible coffee meetups or lunches and explore ways you may be able to help one another this year.

Also, make sure you are spending time on LinkedIn every day, building new connections and contributing to conversations in industry groups.

Four: Update Your Job Search Materials

Take time to spruce up your resume, especially if you haven't touched it in a while. Add your accomplishments from the previous year and remove any outdated or irrelevant skills. You'll also want to update your professional portfolio if your field requires work samples, keep your LinkedIn profile updated and always remember to craft unique cover letters for every job.

Five: Partner With PrideStaff

One of the most efficient and effective ways to find a great new job is to partner with a professional recruiter.
